Rakeya Brinkley, Fayetteville State University Accounting Undergraduate, Class of 2026
Rakeya Brinkley joined the NC Clean Energy Fund team during the summer of 2024 as a Strategic Finance Summer Intern to contribute her skills and knowledge to the work of our organization.
Rakeya is currently pursuing her undergraduate degree in accounting at Fayetteville State University, with an expected graduation date in 2026. Her academic journey is highlighted by her passion for accounting, mentoring, and advocating for renewable energy in rural communities.
Prior to her time with the NC Clean Energy Fund, Rakeya served as a Radiant Ray with the Center for Energy Education. In this role, she not only gained valuable insights into careers in renewable energy but also took on the responsibility of mentoring aspiring professionals. She also participated in actively promoting sustainable energy solutions in underserved rural areas.
Rakeya’s interest in environmental stewardship and community empowerment led her to discover the NC Clean Energy Fund through networking efforts with the Center for Energy Education. Through these efforts she was able to connect with Melissa Malkin-Weber, one of the NC Clean Energy Fund’s Co-Directors. Rakeya was presented with the opportunity to join the organization due to the clear alignment of the mission and needs of the organization with Rakeya’s skills, passions, and experience.
At NCCEF, Rakeya has made significant contributions, including the creation of materials to clarify tax credits available for clean energy projects such as the “Navigating Elective Pay” fact sheet and comprehensive slide decks for nonprofit organizations. Beyond educational materials, Rakeya has actively sought out technical assistance for nonprofits in North Carolina, facilitating access to crucial funding for organizations aiming to implement renewable energy solutions. Her efforts are pivotal in making renewable energy more accessible to community-focused organizations across the state.
Rakeya’s plan for the future is to become a Certified Public Accountant. Her aspirations include specializing in accounting within the insurance or real estate sectors, where she hopes to continue integrating her expertise with her interest in promoting sustainable practices.
